FeisFinds Shipping Guide
Everything you need to know to ship your Irish dance gear safely and confidently
Congratulations on your sale! This guide walks you through everything you need to know about shipping your item — from choosing a carrier to understanding customs. We have included guidance for sellers in the United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, Canada, and Australia.
Important: FeisFinds recommends tracking on all shipments. Please upload your tracking number and share it with your buyer promptly after shipping. Shipping insurance is optional but strongly recommended for items valued over $200.
1 — Before You Ship
No matter where you are shipping from, follow these steps before you drop off your package.
1.1 — Pack your item carefully
• Use a sturdy box or padded mailer. Solo dresses and wigs should always be boxed, not shipped in an envelope.
• Wrap the dress in tissue paper or a plastic bag before placing in the box to protect against moisture.
• Fill empty space with bubble wrap or packing paper to prevent the item shifting during transit.
• For wigs, stuff the cap gently with tissue paper to help it hold its shape during shipping.
• Seal the box securely with strong packing tape on all seams.
• Write the buyer’s address and your return address clearly on the outside of the package.
FeisFinds tip: Photograph your packaged item alongside the shipping label before you drop it off. This protects you if a dispute arises later.
1.2 — Choose a tracked service
FeisFinds recommends tracking on all shipments. Always choose a service that provides a tracking number you can share with your buyer. Do not use services that do not provide tracking — if a buyer claims non-delivery and you have no tracking, you have no evidence to support your case.
1.3 — Consider shipping insurance
Shipping insurance is optional on FeisFinds but strongly recommended for high-value items. FeisFinds is not liable for packages lost, stolen, or damaged in transit. If your item is not insured and is lost by the carrier, the financial loss is yours.
As a general guide, insurance for Irish dance items typically costs (note: these are rough estimates and vary by carrier — always confirm the cost when purchasing your label):
• Under $200 — $2 to $5 — Optional, carrier basic coverage may suffice
• $200 to $500 — $3 to $8 — Recommended
• $500 to $1,000 — $5 to $12 — Strongly recommended
• $1,000 to $2,000 — $10 to $20 — Essential, always insure at full value
• Over $2,000 — $20 and up — Essential, use a specialist carrier
FeisFinds tip: Insurance costs are small compared to the value of a solo dress. A $12 premium on a $1,000 dress is worth it. Most carriers allow you to add insurance at the counter or when purchasing a label online.
1.4 — Payment and timing
All payments on FeisFinds are arranged directly between you and your buyer. We recommend PayPal Goods and Services for built-in payment protection. Once payment is confirmed, ship your item promptly and share the tracking number through FeisFinds messaging.
2 — Shipping from the United States
2.1 — Recommended carriers
USPS (United States Postal Service)
USPS is the most commonly used carrier for Irish dance resale in the US and is generally the most cost-effective for domestic shipments and lightweight international packages.
• USPS Priority Mail — best for domestic US shipping. Delivers in 1-3 business days with tracking and up to $100 of insurance included automatically. Additional insurance can be purchased at the counter. Price range: $10-$25 for a typical dress depending on weight and destination.
• USPS Priority Mail International — best for international shipping from the US. Delivers in 6-10 business days to most countries with tracking and up to $200 of insurance included. Price range: $35-$80+ depending on destination and weight.
• USPS Ground Advantage — best for budget domestic shipping. Delivers in 2-5 business days with tracking and $100 of insurance included. Slightly slower than Priority Mail but more affordable for heavier items. Price range: $8-$20 for a typical dress.
FeisFinds tip: Print your label online at usps.com or through a service like Pirateship.com — you will typically save 10-30% compared to purchasing at the post office counter.
UPS and FedEx
UPS and FedEx offer reliable international shipping with strong tracking and insurance options. They are generally more expensive than USPS for lighter packages but may be more cost-effective for heavier shipments or when speed is essential.
• Price range for international shipping: $50-$150+ depending on destination, weight, and speed.
• Both carriers offer online shipping discounts — create a free account at ups.com or fedex.com to access better rates than over-the-counter pricing.
• Both carriers include basic insurance and offer additional coverage for high-value items.
2.2 — Domestic US shipping times
• USPS Priority Mail: 1-3 business days
• USPS Ground Advantage: 2-5 business days
• UPS Ground: 1-5 business days depending on distance
• FedEx Ground: 1-5 business days depending on distance
2.3 — International shipping from the US
When shipping internationally from the US, you will need to complete a customs declaration form. See section 7 for full guidance on how to complete customs forms accurately.
Important: USPS periodically suspends parcel service to certain countries. Always check usps.com for current service availability to your buyer’s country before shipping.
2.4 — US customs and duties for outbound shipments
When shipping from the US to other countries, the buyer is responsible for any customs duties or import taxes charged by their country. See section 7 for a full breakdown of thresholds and tax rates by destination.
FeisFinds tip: Include a printed copy of your FeisFinds sale receipt inside the package. This helps customs officers understand the item is a second-hand purchase and not a commercial shipment.
3 — Shipping from Ireland
3.1 — Recommended carriers
An Post
An Post is Ireland’s national postal service and the most convenient option for most Irish sellers. Parcels can be dropped off at any of over 900 post offices, PostPoints, or An Post parcel lockers nationwide.
• An Post Standard Post — most affordable option for domestic Irish deliveries and international shipments. Delivers within Ireland in 1-2 working days. International delivery takes 3-7 working days. Tracking is available on parcels.
• An Post Express Post — faster international service delivering in 1-5 working days. Recommended for high-value items where speed and peace of mind matter.
• An Post International Courier — premium express service for urgent international shipments. Most expensive option but fastest delivery.
• Price range for international shipping from Ireland: approximately EUR 15-50+ depending on destination, weight, and service level. Check current rates at anpost.com as prices are updated periodically.
FeisFinds tip: An Post offers insurance on international parcels — ask at your post office about insuring your item at its full value. Insurance is not included automatically and must be requested.
DHL, FedEx, and UPS from Ireland
International courier services are available throughout Ireland and offer reliable tracking and insurance for higher-value shipments.
• Generally more expensive than An Post but offer faster and more trackable international service.
• Price range: EUR 40-120+ for international shipping depending on destination and speed.
• Parcel comparison sites like Parcel Connect or Parcel Motions can help you find the best rates.
3.2 — Shipping from Ireland to the UK
Shipping to Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) is an international shipment post-Brexit.
• Expected delivery time: 2-5 working days with a standard tracked service.
• Since Brexit, customs declarations are required for shipments from the Republic of Ireland to Great Britain. See section 7 for guidance on completing customs forms accurately.
• UK buyers may owe UK VAT and import duty on goods imported from Ireland.
3.3 — Shipping from Ireland to the US and Australia
• United States: Expected delivery time 7-14 working days with a standard tracked service from An Post. Express services are faster but more expensive.
• Australia: Expected delivery time 10-20 working days with a standard service.
See section 7 for customs declaration guidance and destination tax rates.
4 — Shipping from England and Scotland
England and Scotland are both part of Great Britain and use the same postal services. The following guidance applies equally to both.
4.1 — Recommended carriers
Royal Mail
Royal Mail is the UK’s national postal service and the most convenient option for most UK sellers. Parcels can be dropped off at any Post Office branch or many collection points.
• Royal Mail Tracked 24 — domestic UK delivery within 1 business day with full tracking. Price range: approximately GBP 3-8 for a typical dress depending on weight.
• Royal Mail Tracked 48 — domestic UK delivery within 2 business days with full tracking. More affordable than Tracked 24. Price range: approximately GBP 3-7.
• Royal Mail International Tracked — best option for international shipments. Provides end-to-end tracking and signature on delivery. Delivery times vary by destination — approximately 5-7 working days to the US, 7-14 working days to Australia. Price range: approximately GBP 12-40+ depending on destination and weight.
• Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed — premium tracked and insured domestic service with compensation up to GBP 750 included. Recommended for high-value items shipped within the UK. Price range: approximately GBP 7-15.
FeisFinds tip: Royal Mail does not include insurance on standard international services beyond basic compensation. For high-value items, consider adding enhanced compensation or using a private courier with dedicated insurance.
Parcelforce
Parcelforce is the express parcels division of Royal Mail and offers faster and higher-value international services.
• Parcelforce Worldwide — offers tracked international services to most countries with higher insurance coverage than standard Royal Mail.
• Price range: GBP 20-80+ for international shipping depending on destination and speed.
Private couriers from the UK
Services like DPD, DHL, Evri, and UPS are widely available throughout the UK and often offer competitive rates for heavier parcels.
• Evri is popular for lighter parcels but has had reliability issues — for high-value items like solo dresses, Royal Mail or a premium courier is recommended.
• Use comparison sites like Parcel2Go or Parcels Please to compare rates across carriers.
• Price range: GBP 8-60+ depending on carrier, destination, and weight.
4.2 — Shipping from the UK post-Brexit
Since Brexit, shipping from Great Britain to EU countries — including the Republic of Ireland — requires customs declarations. See section 7 for full guidance on completing customs forms accurately.
• Irish buyers will owe Irish VAT (23%) on goods imported from Great Britain.
• Delivery times to Ireland from Great Britain: approximately 3-7 working days with a tracked service.
4.3 — Shipping from the UK to the US, Canada, and Australia
• United States: Expected delivery time 5-10 working days with Royal Mail International Tracked. US buyers are generally not charged import duty on clothing items under $800 in value.
• Canada: Expected delivery time 6-12 working days. Canadian buyers may owe GST and provincial taxes on imported goods.
• Australia: Expected delivery time 10-20 working days. Australian buyers will owe 10% GST on imported goods.
FeisFinds tip: For items valued over GBP 500, consider Parcelforce or a private courier rather than standard Royal Mail — the enhanced tracking and insurance options are worth the additional cost.
5 — Shipping from Canada
5.1 — Recommended carriers

Canada Post is Canada’s national postal service and the most accessible option for most Canadian sellers, with locations in communities across the country.
• Canada Post Expedited Parcel — most popular domestic service. Delivers within Canada in 1-7 business days depending on distance with tracking included. Price range: approximately CAD 15-40 for a typical dress.

FeisFinds tip: Canada Post includes basic compensation on most services but coverage limits may be lower than your item’s value. Purchase additional insurance at the counter for items valued over CAD 100.
UPS, FedEx, and DHL from Canada
Private couriers offer strong international service from Canada with reliable tracking and insurance options.
• Generally more expensive than Canada Post but offer faster delivery and higher insurance coverage.
• Price range: CAD 40-150+ for international shipping.
• All three carriers have online shipping tools where you can compare rates and purchase labels at a discount compared to counter rates.

• Customs declarations are required for all Canada-US shipments. See section 7 for guidance.
• US buyers generally pay no import duty on second-hand clothing items under $800 in value.

• UK: Expected delivery time 6-12 business days.
• Australia: Expected delivery time 10-20 business days.

• Australia Post Parcel Post — standard domestic service delivering within Australia in 2-8 business days depending on distance. Tracking included. Price range: approximately AUD 10-20 for a typical dress within Australia.
• Australia Post Express Post — faster domestic service delivering in 1-3 business days with tracking. Price range: approximately AUD 12-30.

DHL, FedEx, and UPS from Australia
Private couriers offer reliable international service from Australia with strong tracking and insurance.
• Generally more expensive than Australia Post but offer faster and more reliable international service.
• Price range: AUD 60-200+ for international shipping.
• For high-value items like solo dresses shipping internationally, a private courier with dedicated insurance is strongly recommended.
FeisFinds tip: Use a parcel comparison service like Sendle, Couriers Please, or Parcel Send to compare rates across carriers from your location in Australia.
6.2 — Australian customs for outbound shipments
See section 7 for guidance on completing customs declaration forms accurately. Always declare items at their true sale value.
7 — Understanding Customs for All Sellers
Customs can feel intimidating, but for second-hand clothing the process is generally straightforward. Here is what every FeisFinds seller needs to know.
7.1 — What customs is and why it matters
Customs is the process by which goods crossing international borders are checked and taxed by the destination country’s government. Every country has different rules about what can be imported, at what value, and what taxes apply. As a seller, your job is to complete your customs declaration honestly and accurately. What the buyer pays in import taxes or duties is their responsibility — not yours.
7.2 — How to fill in a customs declaration
• Description of contents: Always describe your item clearly and honestly. Used Irish dance solo dress — second-hand clothing is a clear and accurate description. Never write “gift” on a paid transaction — this is fraud and can result in your package being seized.
• Value: Always declare the actual sale price. Do not undervalue the item to help your buyer avoid customs fees. This is illegal in every country and risks your package being seized and you facing penalties.
• Category: Second-hand clothing is typically categorized as used clothing or textile goods on customs forms.
• Country of origin: This refers to where the item was originally made, not where you are shipping from. If you know the dressmaker’s country of manufacture, list that. If you do not know, it is acceptable to leave this field blank or mark as unknown.
FeisFinds tip: Take a photo of your completed customs declaration before shipping. This gives you a record of what you declared if any dispute arises with customs authorities.
7.3 — Customs thresholds by destination country
Each country has a threshold below which imported goods may be exempt from duty. These thresholds change periodically — the following are approximate guides only. Always check current rules with your carrier or the destination country’s customs authority.
• United States — USD $800 duty-free threshold. Most Irish dance items fall under this threshold. No import duty below $800.
• United Kingdom — GBP £135 threshold. UK VAT (20%) applies on goods above this value.
• Ireland and EU — EUR €150 duty-free threshold. Note that Irish VAT (23%) applies to all imported goods regardless of value — there is no VAT-free threshold in Ireland.
• Canada — CAD $20 threshold. Very low threshold — most items will attract GST and provincial tax.
• Australia — AUD $1,000 threshold. Australian GST (10%) applies above this threshold.
Important: These thresholds are approximate and subject to change. Do not rely on them to help buyers avoid taxes. Always declare your item accurately regardless of its value.
7.4 — What happens if a package is held by customs
Occasionally packages are held by customs for inspection or because the buyer owes import taxes. This is normal and does not mean anything is wrong with your shipment.
• Share your customs declaration details with the buyer so they can provide accurate information to customs if requested.
• The buyer is responsible for paying any import taxes or duties and for collecting their package from customs if required.
• FeisFinds is not responsible for customs delays or fees.
FeisFinds tip: If a buyer says their package is stuck in customs and asks you to send a revised customs declaration at a lower value, do not do this. It is illegal and could expose you to serious penalties.

9 — After You Ship
9.1 — Share your tracking number
As soon as you have your tracking number, send it to your buyer through FeisFinds messaging. Sharing your tracking number promptly gives your buyer confidence and allows them to monitor their delivery.
9.2 — Notify your buyer
Send your buyer a message through FeisFinds to let them know their item has been shipped and share the tracking number. A simple message like “Your dress has been shipped — tracking number XXXXXXXX, estimated delivery 7-10 days” makes a real difference to the buyer experience.
9.3 — Monitor your tracking
Keep an eye on your tracking information after shipping. If you notice the package has not moved for an unusual amount of time or shows an error, contact your carrier promptly. Early intervention can resolve delivery issues before they become disputes.
9.4 — What to do if something goes wrong
• Package lost in transit: Contact your carrier immediately with your tracking number to file a lost parcel claim. If you purchased insurance, file an insurance claim at the same time. Your buyer should contact their payment provider — this is why FeisFinds recommends PayPal Goods and Services for all transactions, as it offers built-in buyer protection for exactly this situation.
• Package damaged in transit: The buyer should photograph the damage immediately and contact the carrier to file a damage claim. If you purchased insurance, the claim is filed against that insurance.
• Package stuck in customs: Advise the buyer to contact their local customs authority with their tracking number. Share your customs declaration details with the buyer if needed. Do not alter or resubmit a customs declaration.
